Parents and Guardians,
I hope everyone is well and staying warm. We are currently navigating two factors: winter weather and a pandemic. There is winter weather expected to bring multiple inches of snow and ice to begin tomorrow morning. Also, we are experiencing a slight uptick in positive COVID-19 cases at the secondary school. Due to the impending weather and to avoid a Department of Health mandated closure, I have decided to operate a district-wide virtual learning day on Thursday, February 18th.
Additionally, the secondary school will continue with virtual learning on Friday, February. 19th. The two days of virtual learning will allow secondary students to safely return to school on Monday, February 22nd. The elementary school may continue with the virtual learning on Friday, February 19th based on the weather. The storm is forecasted to last until 10:00 am on Friday. I will wait and see what the actual weather looks like on Friday morning before deciding to keep our elementary school students at home another day. The decision for the elementary school will be made at 6:00 am Friday. There are zero reported COVID-19 cases at the elementary school, therefore weather will be the only consideration to keep these students at home.
I assure all parents, students, and employees we are contacting the PA Department of Health for each positive case and following the attestation agreement as required by the Department of Education. The administration, teachers, custodians, and especially our school nurses have worked diligently to keep everyone safe and in school. The virtual instructional days are a preventative measure to keep everyone safe and maintain the option for in-person learning.
Thanks,
Tom
