Math:
Math has been assigned through the Pearson website. The video(s) and Example pages (Try It questions) on the Pearson site should be done utilizing paper and pencil at home. The 6-2 Math XL Practice and Problem Solving should be done online. I have assigned the paper and pencil portion of 6-3 as well for the week. Nothing needs to be done online for 6-3 however. I've attached a brief zoom video reviewing topics we will be covering this week. Again, the Envision site is a better version to watch for greater understanding, but hopefully you find it somewhat useful.
You should continue to get at least one hour of work completed through Education Galaxy this week as well.
If you have specific questions regarding either this or the previously posted science assignment, we can discuss during our two Zoom meetings this week.
Science:
Read text pages 160-164: What are Fossil Fuels?…Fuel Supply and Demand. Pages attached for those of you without the text.
Complete Pennsylvania Watershed research project. The project will need to be completed utilizing Google Slides. All of you are familiar with this, as we have done numerous projects in class with the same tool. Once completed, you will need to share the slide project with me ([email protected]) and mark the assignment as completed. The project should answer these questions:
1. What is a watershed?
2. How many MAJOR watersheds are there in Pennsylvania?
3. What major Pennsylvania watershed did you choose to research?
4. In which direction (North-South-East-West) is the watershed in relation to the city of Johnstown?
5. How many Pennsylvania counties are a part of this watershed? List at least 5 of those counties.
6. What type of environmental problems is this watershed experiencing?
7. Are there are any groups trying to assist in the maintenance of the watershed....meaning if there are environmental problems....who are the groups and what are they doing to rectify (solve) the problems?
8. What type of recreational activities are associated with the watershed (i.e. rafting, fishing, etc.)?
9. How many people live within the boundaries of the watershed/How many miles of land drain into the watershed?
10. Name two landmarks/major cities associated with the watershed. Meaning...if you traveled the area the watershed encompassed, what would be two major places/sites/activities you might be able to see or be a part of? Example: If you chose a particular Pennsylvania watershed you might be able to stop by and view the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.
11. Describe the journey water in the watershed takes. Headwater = start of a river. Mouth = where it ends (where it meets an ocean, sea or lake).
The project needs to be 10-12 slides in length with pictures focused on the watershed you chose. Feel free to combine certain slides based on the 11 steps I’ve outlined for you. Do not stress. This is meant to be a fun exploring type activity. Who knows, when this is all over, you might have done enough research to plan a trip you and your family might want to take ????????. I’ve included a brief YouTube video that may answer a few of the questions listed if you choose to do a particular watershed. I’ve also added a link to a very informative website regarding Pennsylvania watersheds. Feel free to use any generic search to look up questions not answered on the website I posted. If you have any questions, feel free to email me, or ask during one of our Zoom meetings scheduled for this week. Talk later.
